Oman dubai border crossing

When I got a short term assignment in Oman, I was not interested to take my family with me. As a result I travelled every weekend back to sharjah by road and return back to sohar on Sunday morning. Here I like to share my experience in Border crossing between Oman and UAE through Hatta/Sharjah border crossing.

My workplace which is at sohar port is only 60 km from international border. From sohar port you have to drive along the highway which goes to khatmat milaha bordering with kalba in sharjah emirates.  If you want to go to Dubai then after shinas there is a big roundabout at Al Aqar and you  take left turn which takes you  to  alwajajah border post inside oman. However after crossing this border you need to drive another 5 km to reach hatta border which is the entry point to uae manned by Dubai emigration.

Now let me explain the difference between these two border post crossing procedure.

If you are resident of oman and willing to travel to uae on a visit visa then hatta border is the best option (Follow the Green arrow). Both alwajajah(oman side) and hatta(UAE side) border post has got a well maintained arrival hall. Al wajajah border post one can find  wash rooms restaurant like pizza hut prayer room ATM etc. If you are an expatriate with Oman visa you just pass through drive in counter where you can complete emigration process.

On reaching uae border you will be welcomed by a big arrival hall. Nearby to this hall you can see drive in emigration counter which is restricted to locals and GCC nationals. For expatriates you need to park in front of arrival hall and  go inside the emigration hall for completing emigration formality.  The arrival hall is well equipped with Dubai duty free counter , rest room, free wifi etc.

After completing visa formality you need not go again through drive in counter. You can take the free exit and drive for another 2 km before you will be checked by customs. After crossing customs checkpost you drive past crossing hatta town.

After completing customs you can drive straight towards Dubai following E44. However note that this road again pass through Oman. Previously this road takes all travellers to Dubai. Recently because of security reason direction board indicating Dubai (pointing to your right)  is placed in the road going to kalba. This road meets maleha road or sharjah - kalba road near Munay. Drive further towards sharjah till you reach Maleha town. From here either you can take road going to  madam and join E44 again. However if you continue in sharjah kalba road you can join Emirates road and follow Dubai sign for onward journey to Dubai.

While coming  from sharjah I always prefer khatam malaha border (Red Arrow)  which is located in kalba town of sharjah. The advantage of this border especially early morning will be free and having drive in facility in UAE and Oman side. We can complete all formality sitting inside the car. Moreover both borders are just 1 km apart makes the emigration process very simple.

After driving past 20 Km from Malaha border, you will meet the road coming from Hatta at Al Aqar and you will be welcomed by a big arch welcoming you to Oman.
